Dr. Giovanni Maria Mascaretti is a Lecturer in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. He earned his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Essex in 2017. Before joining BIU, he held teaching, research, and academic leadership positions at institutions in the UK, Italy, Oman, and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. His research interests include contemporary political theory, the history of political thought, and the politics of the Middle East. Within these fields, he focuses in particular on Michel Foucault’s ethical and political writings, eco-republicanism, and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Dr. Mascaretti also serves on the editorial board of the international journal Foucault Studies.
